PHOTO ESSAY/Three Children To The Gates of Trilak

Introduction

I have been in love with photography and start taking photos since 15 years old. Now, I am 68 years old and I have took more that 1,000 photos.

On Aril 2000, during the time of Covid-19 Pandemic, I spent my time looking back on my
photo albums. I am impressed by some particular picture I took. Then I have an idea to link all these nostalgic photos into a new story. The three boys on a train that I took in 1972 at Cha-Am Railway Station and the stainless door which is a reflection of a Myanmar temple in 2019 at Victoria Point in Myanmar gave me an inspiration to create a time gap, which is a time that is longer than 40 years into one single time.

When looking at the 2 sets of photos combined, the concept and content between the boys
and doors should synthesize. My 1,000 pictures when combined can create a new meaning, a new image and a new intellectual interpretation which makes this process of creating this art piece fun and feel achievement of the outcome.

The picture of the three boys refers to Trilak (Anijjang, Tookkang and Anatta), this triplet
relates to number 3 on the train and this bogie of the train has a signage “Thonburi – Chumporn” that gives a sense of traveling – travel to the three gates.

The gates are abstract illusion of the temple that reflects a “Second Level” of the image of
the temple. The three gates give a kaleidoscope sense which is an emotion of “Illusion of the holy gate”. The first gate refers to Anijjang (Unstability), the second gate refers to Tookkang (Suffering) and the third gate refers to Anatta (Uncontrollable). These 3 particular photos are like mosaic which juxtapose to give a new meaning and become an art piece that provide a particular creative content to the viewers.

The metaphoric of these 2 sets of pictures gave audience new ideas, new intellectual concept, new story and also aim to experiment by putting pictures together. An artist can develop a new experiment by combining photos which will create a new idea and gain new meaning from it.

In the Here and Now Project :
A Photo Journal of Self Space in Quarantine Time

Mrs. Pailin Phokthavi

DOWNLOAD

Introduction

Mundane interior objects and spaces seem like it is not a kind of art, or it is? Can
“Normal” be a new meaning to life? Can we create a photo without travel so far? These all questions have become an aspect to me since the state shut down for Covid-19 occurred. When we have to live our life as normal as possible in an unusual situation, our “normal”, then, has shifted to the new one. “Home” is the only place where we feel secure. We need to “stay at home” and stay in a distance from people. Day by day, “Home” turns into an only friend we have conversations and communicate our feelings. The ideas formed the beginning of the project. To practice the eyes of aesthetic appreciation, the “In the Here and Now” project is my self-challenge to take a snapshot of “home” every day in the quarantine time, and to post a photo a day on social-media, working as my gallery and journal of life in the extraordinary situation.

{“A photo a day – 40 photos 40 days”
The word “Quarantine” is given a definition by Merriam Webster as “a period of
40 days” (merriam-webster.com). The definition roots back to the early 1600s as it borrowed from Italian word “quarantena” meaning “a period of forty days.” The historical meaning of this renowned word in our today-society referred to a period of time measurement when ships and people were isolated to prevent any suspected contagious disease. (dictionary.com) Therefore, in the project, timing of 40 days photo taking has been chosen to express the hidden meaning of “Quarantine.” Moreover, related to the meaning of “isolation” sense, the quarantine requires a practice of “distancing” or “The gap” which we all should mind. The implying concept, then, can be a part of the 8th Rangsit University International design exhibition “Work in Progress 8: Mind the Gap.”

{“Home – Appreciation in normal life and space”
“Home” is the subject of the photo snapshots in this self-challenge because a home is not an inattentively set scene in picturesque interior design spaces; rather, it is the place that presents mundane everyday objects and spaces. However, “home” gives profound thoughts and feelings deeply in love and life. In contrast to the “gap”, “home” is very close to us, but when we live at home every day, the “gap” has begun, and most of the time we overlook the beauty of spaces and scenes.

When the situation forces us to stay home, a home becomes both a safe
sanctuary and a vapid cage. Consequently, this project is aimed to give inspiration for people to look back to their interior spaces, observe, and appreciate simple aesthetic of everyday life. Therefore, the project is named “In the Here and Now” to state “a present moment” that we have to appreciate and thank for.

{On Instagram
In social-distancing time, social networks are the most capable tools to connect
with the world. For this project, Instagram, one of the effective photo gallery-sharing social networks, has been chosen to display the photos as my own gallery. The photos will be arranged and sorted by date, so a post a day is presented orderly as in the concept of the project. What is the beauty of it? On Instagram, once a photo is posted, it would not be able to edit or insert, only delete, thus I have to respect and admit the happening. Although some of the photos are not the best, they are not returnable and manipulated, so I have a chance to learn to accept and let them go with time. (Please visit https://www.instagram.com/in.the.here_and_now/)

Starting the first post on April 13, 2020, the project has begun slightly after the
announcement of the state quarantine, and now it has completed for 40 days on May 23, 2020. Nevertheless, I have noticed an improvement in my photo taking artistically, as well as the growing feeling of motivation to improve my interior space. Therefore, I will continue the project and carry on taking and posting the photos of the space

Through the project of “In the Here and Now”, as time goes by, I have felt much more for the connection of my mind and the interior elements I call “Home.” and how we bond to things we own. The more important thing than a technique in photo taking or splendid interior design is that it reflects the story behind and record the moment in a period of time. “There is no technique necessary when clicking every day, but it’s more about paying attention to everything around us, feeling it and transmitting it into a moment.” Simran Nanwani (2017), a passionate photographer and writer, wrote in her article on Sleeklens.com that has inspired me. Moreover, I have always loved to visualize and move through a space, anatomizing its nature, but after continuing with this project so far, my interest in visualize the world through photography has grown also.

Gap between society

Introduction

In materialistic world that creates many negative feelings, such as greed, selfishness, jealousy and contention for survival without heeding surroundings.

We are in the materialistic world that creates many negative feelings, greed, selfishness, jealousy and contention for survival without heeding surroundings whether it be fellowmen, nature, or environments. Humans are neglecting moral values, frequently don’t realize differences between right ones and wrong ones, and will do everything for what that is wanted, including wealth and freedom.

Injustices in society create gaps among people in the social group. Once the gaps are
created, they usually lead to problems e.g. misunderstanding, incompatibility, having different social values, looking at problems from different perspective, and having different opinions/thoughts. Especially the word “impartial” things can be impartial for ones. On the other hand, they may be not impartial for the others. Therefore, the gaps are the reasons leading to problems.

This art malevolent creature art was created from bird bones and skeleton, representing
a human sole. This piece of art was erected for motivating humankind to imagine the image of struggling to get power, wealth and freedom. The pile of bird bones represents the gap between ideas, struggling to get the structure and gorgeous covering feathers represents the gap between currencies, and the fight represents the gap between morality for its freedom to depart the cage and finally be the charming bird.

Three main problems that create a gap between society.Shown through this piece of art are
– The gap between ideas.
– The gap between morality.
– The gap between currencies.

Introduction

We clean everything in our lives—our clothes, our plates, ourselves. We’re concerned about pollution in our seas, forests, and cities. But the fact is we spend most of our time indoors. So it’s time to think about cleaning in a different way. Ozoneair provides cleaning technology inspired by nature.

We aim for brand cohesiveness on both storytelling and product design. By providing functional solutions that answer the buyer persona’s needs and to work as intended, Ozoneair project challenged the design thinking process of designers and innovators.

We looked at the competitive landscape, analyse the features and costs of the competitors’ products. From there, we were able to define a unique product positioning that goes in line with brand positioning (User-friendly, innovative, smart). Every single aspect of design including the features and user interface is aligned with the defined user’s needs and key drivers.

Ozoneair ensures you breathe with confidence and enhances your living quality. We are committed to bringing the most efficient cleaning solutions that clean and purify what surrounds you. Ozoneair is the perfect balance of design, technology and efficiency. Originated in Sweden means when designing the product we care about aesthetics and quality. We provide sophisticated Scandinavian design.

Most ozone generators are square-shaped because of the nature of the product being functional-led. The design stands out using a metal bending technique and softens the design with a round shape. The technology is intuitive and aimed to optimize the user experience. As a result, it is fully automatic: Ozoneair works on autopilot. All you have to do is specify the size of the surface you want to clean and tailor a treatment program with just the right time and intensity. It provides the most efficient result in the shortest period of time

Ozone air is a new technology derived from nature. It generates small thunders/sparks and releases Ozone into your room. It is a safe and natural process.

Almost unlimited use: Ozoneair PRO can be used for about 1000 treatments or the equivalent of 4000 hours of operation. Once the operating time is reached, it can easily be filled with special plates inserted from the underside of the product.

This project was a complete strategic revamp of the products and the overall brand image and communication. The objective was to appeal to a broader range of consumers. To do that, we aimed to create a relevant and aspirational brand that reinforces the design and innovation. This allows us to better targeting customers, which led us to define the brand strategy for each target group. The brand strategy was then translated into visual identity, website, and brand-driven product design. This creates consistency in branding and the overall product portfolio.

Introduction

As a Textile design lecturer, I had the opportunity to be an assistant in the textile
workshop by Mrs. Geri Forkner (textile artist from USA) on felting, and that was my starting point for felting. The felting technique is well-known technique in Western countries. Since it is a technique that uses wool as a material for making art craft. It began to be used as a technique for craft enthusiasts in Thailand but not yet popular. Since the wool material is not yet able to be produced in the country, it still requires importing the material from foreign countries. Therefore the material is quite expensive.

The felting techniques comes in a variety of forms, both in 2D and 3D, depending on the
method. For this reason, it made me interested and want to experiment my art works with felting techniques.

The inspiration for my work is mostly the impressions from my journey. This time, due to
the impression of visiting the United States in the spring season where colorful flowers in the garden Therefore bring to be a form of creation in this work.

Caused by interest in felting techniques that are widely used among textile artists in Western countries. But in Thailand it is still known, not yet popular because the materials used are still expensive. I have to experiment on felting technique by myself via online media such as YouTube and apply it to suit the design of my works.

The purpose of this work is to transfer felting techniques to become more widely known in

Thailand. I want to create art piece from felting by hand-made in 3D shape, created in the form of three handbags that are different in the look and color tones .

From the experimentation of working from wool with wet felting and needle felting techniques, all 3 pieces have been received, allowing designers to find the problem of creating patterns from paper to real materials. Sometimes it is impossible to control the forming of the art work as designed. With the factor of water temperature in felting and felting time. The results that are satisfactory to the designer at a good level.

Introduction

The lotus flower is literally the essential and meaningful symbol of Buddhism, which is the queen of aquatic plants and representative of Buddhist’s spirituality. The meaning of lotus in Sanskrit is ”Bongkot” which means the mud birth. In Buddhism, levels of lotus can be compared to a range of human greed. The levels of the lotus are divided into four types, ranging from the lowest lotus under the mud, the underwater lotus, the lotus at the water surface, to the lotus above water. Those thriving in mud, being rotten and animal feeds represent ignorant humans, while those thriving above water are pure and spiritual, symbolizing enlightened humans.
Inspired by the meaning of lotus, a design concept highlights a range of lotus levels in Buddhism. Greeds of the lower lotus are translated into the rough surface. Different leaf shapes are used to represent confusion. In contrast, the pureness of enlightened higher lotus is portrayed by tidy lines and neat surface.

This womenswear outfit is inspired by a lotus with an emphasis on its meaning in Buddhism. In addition to the silhouette influenced by the lotus shape, the surface design features various techniques in order to reflect various types of humans, according to the comparison of humans to different levels of lotus in Buddhism. Comparing the embellishment to human greed and desire, elements of lotus leaves are developed into surface techniques, ranging from rough embroidery, the untidy line to neat decoration.

Flute and Guitar classical music: Schubert & Kohle 15 Original Dance from D.365 Plaisirs pour Guitar and Flute Aug 24, 2018 – Uploaded by HALIDONMUSIC

In this time of The 8th Rangsit University International Design Exhibition, I would like to express how pleasant of this classical music into the vision of digital illustration art.

This music is soft sounds of tiny melody harmonized with a flute and a guitar. The melodic make the happiness and joyful. Therefore, I set the place at the sky with the full of cloud for my design with the angels of musician, two kinds of music instruments, and the puppets.

The first and second design pieces I show the musician playing their song for the puppet. I use the image of living puppet controlled with the melody for representing the human who love music and who get the dramatically impact on their life. In the last piece, two puppets are dancing with the song of ‘Schubert & Kohle 15 Original Dance from D.365’.

My designs will be exhibited on the website for the 8th RSU International Deign Symposium, My printed art piece will be given to the College of Music, Rangsit University. Audience’s Viewing Gap in Digital/VR/AR
Art mediums Series of Artwork,
“Silent Roar: The Last of Us”

Mr. Gomesh Karnchanapayap

DOWNLOAD

Introduction

Since the dawn of time, humans have been inventing art mediums as ways to share experience. COVID Pandemic not only changes the way we socialize but also puts a “gap” everywhere. Although Physical Art establishments such as museums and galleries are now being put on pause mode, art viewing and experiencing will continue. While they not be able to substitute the real things, modern technologies can be used to share artworks in this social distancing era.

The subject of this study is a family of black leopards. In this series of artwork, “Silent Roar: The Last of Us”, the artist utilized 3 different mediums to represent gaps in art viewing. The 3 mediums are Digital animation, Virtual Reality animation, and Augmented Reality animation which can be viewed through a monitor, a Virtual Reality head-mounted display, and a smartphone respectively. Art contents can be delivered to these three mediums via internet providing safe methods of viewing artworks.

Although the 3 artworks are of the same subject, the gap in viewing the artworks differ due to the chosen medium. Digital Medium can be viewed traditionally by projecting contents on a monitor. According to the rules of ergonomics, a recommended viewing distance for a monitor is 51 centimeters. Virtual Reality place 2 monitors very close to your eyes. The gap between your pupils and the VR lens is about 10 centimeters. Augmented Reality technology can superimpose virtual artwork on top of a real environment and be viewed through your smartphone screen with a viewing gap of approximately 40 centimeters. These display formats are viable remote art exhibitions as the creative contents can be delivered anywhere via internet. This providing truly safe viewing “gaps” during the COVID pandemic while keeping you connected to the art world.
