Introduction

Photography Baan Nor Lae: At borderless area Baan Nor Lae, there is ethnic groups
call as Da-ra-ang is located on the Thai-Myanmar border. Road was cut through the village as a frontier line. Livelihood of villager mostly rely on agriculture system, which tied to Doi Ang Khang Royal project, sometime they gone out of the village for selling local goods in Myanmar. Thoughts and beliefs of the community relate to Buddhism, but still practice in the way of ancestors, which can be observed from “Sao Jai Baan” or called by Da-ra-ang as “Hor Thur” reflected the area of village’s mental center.

Documentary Photos in this set have not study in-depth detail. But the beginning of the installation in order to record and collaborate to be publish and acknowledge the existence of this ethic community in Thai state area.

The author has traveled to the community area twice, with desire to collect this photography documentary. Each time spends 3-4 days in the area collecting ethnographic field work with participatory observation, formal and informal interview, and film recording. In case, to learn and understand the lives of people in the community, this will include researcher and key informations gather in the concept of “spatialisation”. This concept used as important tool to study “area” and understanding the ethic community of Da-ra-ang village.

Working on this photography documentary set, the creator found out that ethnic community areas are able to adapt with the nation state occupied. The road cuts through village as border spilt Thai – Myanmar state but cannot deprive them apart. This is partly, because of cultural connect them together, whether language, kindred, belief in Buddhism and ghosts, and the way of live. All the things were mention might not last long because today their life style is beginning to be tied with capitalism, especially in the form of contact farming starting infiltrated into their livelihood.
