Giant’s Valley, The Last Vacation, The Attack of the urns!,
The Long Journey Home, Run for your life

Lee Milner

Introduction

1. Giant’s Valley
An ongoing series of images, following the ‘Wanderer’ as He navigates a strange world unlike ours. He’s an explorer that has to overcome many hurdles along His journey. This image is when He first sets eyes on the Giant in an opening in the jungle. What next?

2. The Last Vacation
A second look at the image shows a more sinister side. To the right of the illustration, you can see a wolf in waiting. The family are on vacation in the cabin, which looks to be surrounded by nothing but wilderness. As the title suggests, this may not be as relaxing as you first think!

3. The Attack of the urns!
Artwork for a computer game intro. The Urns that contain souls of the dead, suddenly turn on their family and the chaos ensues. The game and artwork were both created in PlayStation’s Dreams game.

4. The Long Journey Home
This image shows the pilot seeing His home planet for the first time in years as They have been off exploring other worlds. Still a long journey to go!

5. Run for your life
This image is a game concept idea I had about a side scroller level, where you need to escape various creatures while jumping obstacles and avoiding traps.

Conclusion

The artworks prove that art can be created with almost every tool. The illustrations were created
using a games console. Game art and concept art is usually created using traditional tools and
applications, but to create it using a game in itself is truly inspiring.

Objectives Aims or Purposes

To create a feeling of mystery and storytelling form single images. The hope here is to create
more questions than answers. Let the viewer fill in the story for themselves.

Process or Methods

Using elements of VR and move controllers, the image is created using Media Molecule’s
software ‘Dreams’.

Techniques and materials

Digital Illustrations using a PlayStation and Move controllers.

Mobile application 3D AR coloring Book

La Min Khin / Myanmar

About

In the era of technology, most of our traditions, cultures are fading along with modern
technology.
Hidden Culture: magic coloring book is the culture based technology product. Fusing
Myanmar traditional toys with Augmented Reality (AR) technology to bring back culture to
modern days.
Being able to create an entertaining and educational books not only requires a visually
stimulating content but also means for the children and students to interact, create, and express
themselves.
Inside the product, we present a new type of mixed-reality book experience, which
augments an educational coloring book with user-generated three dimensional content. This
changes the appearance of the book content from normal coloring book.
Users can color the pages of the book, while scanning the pages with installed mobile
application, the system recognizes each pages and the various color used by the users, and
directly maps the colored end results to virtual pop-up 3D models and scenes.

The package contain not just an AR Coloring book but also comes together with well-
packed color pencils and extra stickers. The user can start coloring without worrying about

buying additional color pencils.
As a creative director for this project, I decided to design the physical product to grasp the
overall traditional aesthetic. Back in 1970-80, folded palm leaves boxes were very popular in
Myanmar for keeping items and clothing. This is where the idea came out for the packaging
design of Hidden Culture.
The desire to experiment each outcomes for the color that you made and to be able to
learn new knowledge through in a fun way together, those are the pure sub-conscious
desirability moments for the users to be experienced in life.

He uses virtual reality tools as an extension of the self – creating uniquely organic and emotive pieces through this intuitive new technology.

Process or Methods

Technology is Art, and Art is Technology and allows for a free flow state without expectations, preconceptions of what the piece should be, only expression perchance to create something with the uniqueness of the self. Painting to Virtual Reality

Debbi Saccomanno Chan / USA

Introduction

my last years before deciding to buy an Oculus/Rift were spent submerged in Chinese in art and culture. I wanted my Traditional Chinese style to be a signature style so I began painting in free style and gong bi or detail on the same painting and I expanded my subjects to almost anything.

Conclusion

From creating this work of art Make the artist realize the importance of the environment and the viewpoint of living as a human being only part of the world. Caring for wildlife, air, water and environment.

Objectives Aims or Purposes

Getting into storytelling and painting in jumbo albums and scrolls was what I spent my time working until one Christmas about 4 years ago I managed to buy an Oculus/Rift and gaming computer. I was hooked. 10 plus hours a day. But the Chinese traditional style stayed only now it was in virtual reality.

Process or Methods

I have continued to follow the same Canons and teachings of my traditional painting on silk or rice paper but now I am closer to the Chinese perspective of having the viewer in the painting instead of looking in. VR is perfect for this. I can make use of my deep relief carving so that I am almost carving my VR paintings.

Techniques and materials

Virtual Reality Painting on Oculus Quill. I paint using the Quill App and there is nothing really fancy. I generally use one brush and one layer just as I would on my traditional. I blend color or apply it on top of each other as I would on a gong bi painting on finished rice paper. I use my training in deep relief carving as well so that I am carving the painting.

I Recognize the Pattern

Over the course of many years, I have observed the pattern of denial that emerges when people bring out issues of wrongdoing. Speaking from personal experience, I can respect their views because I recognize the resistance they face. Here

the use of traditional weave structures that become distorted beyond recognition by laminating them to a layer of wool stands as a metaphor for how the facts become distorted and changed in the ensuing debates.

A second chance’- project together with Serda Çamlı- for VitrA(TR)

The Chandelier- ‘a second chance’ is an upcycle project for VitrA brand, Turkey, which produces sanitary products and recently has represented Turkey at the ‘European Business Awards for the Environment’ and won the 1st prize. The Chandelier was designed to announce the good news.

After a factory visit to see all the pieces and the waste components, together with sculptor Serda Çamlı, we picked the basin mixer handles to give them a second chance.

The oak elements are added to complete the handles and hold the candles. The oak box in the bottom supports the handles and serves as a storage for extra tealight. And the handles function as fancy tealight holders with a handle to move around independently, and they also serve as the sliding covers of the box.

İpad case/ felt set- a promotion line for architects, for VitrA(TR)

Felt set- a promotion line for architects, for VitrA(TR), 2014
The line includes:
– roll pencil case with sketch pencils
– iPad case coming with a notebook that has an iPad contour and a pencil to be replaced by a stylus if wanted
– sketch roll with a cutter and case

The pencil case: I was asked to design a roll pencil case with 5 sketch pencils for architects. The client specially didn’t want any extra space for anything else. While playing, this came out: the set looks complete with 5 pencils while hiding space in between, upside down, for extra pencils. For me, this is not a design easy to think about while sketching, sometimes it is the best to get the material in your hands and discover the potentials

The iPad case: being part of the felt line for architects, carry the same pencil detail as the pencil case, and it’s a bit hidden on the top side. The case comes with a notebook and a pencil; The notebook is designed having the iPad contour and the pencil can be replaced by a stylus if wanted. The case was sent to the selected architecture offices by post on special days

The sketch roll: being part of the felt line for architects, has a metal piece attached to it with an elastic band going through the center of the roll. Observing how the architects use a sketch roll and how they use a ruler or an edge of a table for a straight cut, this idea came up, a metal piece is adapted to the roll for tearing neatly. The metal piece also holds the end of the roll in place and prevents the roll from opening and getting damaged.

When the roll is finished, the metal piece can be taken out and used with a new roll. The sketch roll has a felt case that protects the roll and existing sketches.

Face Shield

Due the recent COVID-19 pandemic outbreak that causes shortages in medical supplies for both medical personnel around the country and the public that do not have access to these supplies. Our good friend and printing supplier, Songpol Press had ask us to help donating the design of the face shield to be produced and distribute to the people and hospitals in rural areas throughout Thailand.

The face shield was designed for efficient logistics. It was made mostly out of paper, so it is light and can be used 1–2 times. Usually, face shields are plain and similar to each other, so we design both the structure and the graphics on the mask that are colorful to lift up the moods and cheer up hopes in the front field.

We use paper as the structure to reduce plastic waste. Along with the PET plastic for the window area that can be easily removed and very safe to use. The face shield design itself is user-oriented. We design a box to be placed on the forehead position by adopting the box folding method into the design. This makes it easy and quick for users to fold the forehead guard box and also improve the sturdiness of the face shield. The forehead guard box also giving the distance between the face and the shield just right for those who are wearing glasses and aren’t.

Moreover, this face shield design comes with graphics art that will inspire others to contribute by designing inspirational artworks to cheer up medical workers or supporting financially. Therefore, we believe that this design serves as one of the drives that push forward cooperations among people and community.
